US business leaders to visit China as both sides meet for latest round of trade talks
A high-level American business delegation will visit China this week on a trip that coincides with the latest round of US-China trade talks, according to two sources familiar with the matter. The trip to Beijing will be organised by the US-China Business Council and led by FedEx chief executive Rajesh Subramaniam, the council's board chair. The full list of visiting business leaders and schedule is not known but both sources said that Boeing executives and the president of the council Sean Stein were certain to be part of the delegation. 'They are expected to meet with Chinese officials - potentially to revive business discussions,' a source said. The council has not responded to requests for comment. The council regularly organises visits to China that coincide with significant events and involve meetings with senior officials. Last year's visit coincided with a major policy meeting in Beijing and included senior executives from Apple, Boeing, Goldman Sachs and Micro Technology. The upcoming visit will be the highest-level American business delegation since US President Donald Trump started his latest tariff war in April.

Saudi business delegation arrives in Syria eyeing $4 billion in deals
Saudi Arabia's investment minister led a business delegation travelling to Syria on Wednesday, where they were expected to sign deals worth around $4 billion as part of Riyadh's efforts to support the country's post-war recovery. The Gulf kingdom has been a crucial supporter of interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa's government, which came to power after toppling longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in December and is now seeking to rebuild Syria after a 14-year civil war. Saudi investment minister Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, who brought around 130 Saudi businesspeople to Damascus, is set to hold meetings with Syria's leadership ahead of a two-day investment conference opening on Wednesday, according to people due to attend. During his visit to Syria, Saudi Arabia's Al-Falih and his Syrian counterpart launched a cement factory project on Wednesday in Adra Industrial City in Damascus' countryside, the first white cement production project in the country, Syrian state news agency SANA said. BEIJING (AP) — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese kicked off a visit this weekend to China meant to shore up trade relations between the two countries. Albanese met with Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining on Sunday, the first in a series of high-level exchanges that will include meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and Chairman Zhao Leji of the National People's Congress. The prime minister is leading 'a very large business delegation' to China, which speaks to the importance of the economic relations between Australia and China, he told Chinese state broadcaster CGTN upon his arrival in Shanghai on Saturday. During a weeklong trip, Albanese was set to meet business, tourism and sport representatives in Shanghai and Chengdu, including a CEO roundtable on Tuesday in Beijing, his office said. He oversaw the signing of an agreement between Chinese online travel giant and the government agency Tourism Australia aimed at attracting more Chinese tourists to the continent. It is Albanese's second visit to China since his center-left Labor Party government was first elected in 2022. The party was reelected in May with an increased majority. Albanese has managed to persuade Beijing to remove a series of official and unofficial trade barriers introduced under the previous conservative government that cost Australian exporters more than 20 billion Australian dollars ($13 billion) a year. Beijing severed communications with the previous administration over issues including Australia's calls for an independent inquiry into the origins of and responses to COVID-19. But Albanese wants to reduce Australia's economic dependence on China, a free trade partner. "My government very much values our relationship with China," Albanese said during his meeting with Chen. 'We deal with each other in a calm and consistent manner, and we want to continue to pursue our national interests, and it is in our interest to have good relations with China.' Chinese state-run Xinhua News Agency, in an editorial Saturday, described China's relationship with Australia as 'steadily improving' and undergoing 'fresh momentum.' 'There are no fundamental conflicts of interest between China and Australia,' the editorial stated. 'By managing differences through mutual respect and focusing on shared interests, the two sides can achieve common prosperity and benefit.'
